| Here's my reply to a thread about Tiger's speech today apologizing for his behaviour.
I just saw it, and thought, okay, the writer of that speech does indeed know what should be said.
A lot of points were covered, all properly and thoroughly.
I did notice of course the mention of his charity work with kids, and how this great work would continue. lol.
Does he actually believe what he said? Will he really live the way he says he will? Will he change his ways? I don't say yes or no. I don't know.. and frankly I really don't care. His life is his to live.
I do like it that these this speech was given, however. Not why it was given or who gave it, but because these things need to be said. People need to hear them. The part I thought was most important was about how he thought the rules did not apply to him. This is a concept that is in many of our heads, including my own. I do lots of things I think I can 'get away with' .. smoking cigarettes on and off for years, speeding and driving a bit recklessly at times, eating junk, not exercising enough, many more little things.... and hugely of course, this work I do.
Living with integrity is not easy for many people. When we see what we think is an easy way out or a fun way to divert ourselves from the banality of a sometimes boring existence, our egos let us think the rules don't apply so we can indulge ourselves. There is that delicious feeling of getting away with something we shouldn't.. an ego boost that is so alluring!
When it's time to pay the piper however, and the rock bottom happens, it's no fun for anyone involved. I don't take joy at seeing his fall, nor do I care what his motivations are with this speech. I am just happy it is out there for people to see and think about. It could possibly help someone turn their own life around, and hopefully prevent destruction and pain in their own lives.
